Former Israeli National Team coach Gabe Kapler wins National League Manager of the Year Award

He led the San Francisco Giants to 107 wins and a National League Championship Series.

Major League Baseball (MLB) named Gabe Kapler of the San Francisco Giants the National League Manager of the Year.

Kapler, 46, is a former MLB outfielder who helped the Boston Red Sox win the 2004 World Series. He has international experience as a coach since he was on Israel's coaching staff at the World Baseball Classic Qualifier 2012.

Kapler, nicknamed the Hebrew Hammer when he played, is very proud of his Jewish heritage. He has a Star of David tattoo on his left calf and the Never Again post-holocaust motto on his right calf.

When the Philadelphia Phillies hired him in 2018, he became the eighth Jewish manager in MLB history. One of the other seven is Brad Ausmus, who was his manager when he coached for Israel.

Kapler joined the Giants in 2020. After his first season, he was praised for his managerial approach to hitting. He led San Francisco to the National League Championship Series in 2021. He received 28 first-place votes out of 30.

Kevin Cash of the Tampa Bay Rays repeated as the American League Manager of the Year.
