Sport for Climate Action (S4CA)

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) is the United Nations entity tasked with supporting the global response to the threat of climate change. The Sport for Climate Action (S4CA) is a climate action for sport movement launched in 2018. UNFCC invited sports organisations and their stakeholders to join and achieve global climate change goals.

The WBSC signed the S4CA Framework in 2021. As a signatory of the Framework, the WBSC reaffirms its commitment to climate action reducing its carbon footprint by setting itself the target of being carbon neutral by 2040.

As part of the Framework, the WBSC will strive to implement the five core principles enshrined in the Framework which are to:

  • promote greater environmental responsibility;
  • reduce the overall climate impact from WBSC events;
  • use the WBSC platform to educate for climate action;
  • promote sustainable and responsible consumption; and
  • advocate for climate action through WBSC communications.

You can check tracking and the actions undertaken from the dedicated WBSC webpage on the UNFCC website.

S4CA publishes the S4CA Signatories’ Reports every year. You can have access to the report from here.
