Successful Baseball5 promotion at Day of Sports in Vienna, Austria

The Austrian Baseball and Softball Federation (ABF) celebrated a successful promotional event for Baseball5 on 21 September in Vienna including a demonstration with celebrity athletes from other Olympic sports.

For the 23rd time Austria’s sport community celebrated the Day of Sports at the Heldenplatz in Vienna on 21 September, as one of the biggest Sport Open Air Festivals in Europe. It’s a promotional event, which features various national sport federations introducing their sports, while attendees have the opportunity to meet and greet various sports stars.

The Austrian Baseball and Softball Federation (ABF) also participated in the Day of Sports, using Baseball5 to showcase the disciplines of baseball and softball to the public. Highlights were demo events on a popup Baseball5 court including the participation of Matthias Linorter (3x3 basketball), Lisa Zderadicka (basketball), Sonja Frey (handball), Charlotte Wittich (ice hockey) and David Hussl (sailing) among others.

Hussl, a two-time Olympic Game participant, said: “It’s a real cool game, where you do not need much to set up a field. For me it was the first experience in baseball. At first I had to look at the rules, but starting from the second round it worked pretty well.”

Wittich, the record caps holder in the European Women’s Hockey League, said: “Baseball without a bat sounds funny in the beginning, but makes perfect sense to get into the game. It was a cool experience to try out the sport.”
