The Oklahoma Sooners made history in Game 2 of the 2024 Women’s College World Series (WCWS) Championship Series by clinching their fourth-consecutive NCAA Softball title on Thursday night with an 8-4 victory over the Texas Longhorns.

Four athletes from the University of Oklahoma represented the U.S. Women’s National Team program on the final day of the WCWS held at Devon Park, the softball-specific ballpark located inside the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City, United States.

Following the conclusion of the NCAA season, Tiare Jennings is set to compete with the U.S. Women’s National Team in Castions de Strada, Italy at the WBSC Women's Softball World Cup Finals. Additionally, Jayda Coleman, Kinzie Hansen, and Kelly Maxwell will showcase their skills at the 2024 Japan All-Star Series with the U.S. Women’s Elite Team in July.

The Sooners tabbed 12 hits on the day — highlighted by a 2-for-4 performance at the plate from Jayda Coleman, while Kinzie Hansen also contributed with a hit. Kelly Maxwell closed out the series in the circle to record the final four outs and earned the well-deserved title of WCWS Most Outstanding Player. Coleman, Jennings and Hansen closed out their collegiate careers having won four NCAA titles with the Sooners – marking a historic achievement as the first programme in NCAA history to do so. All four athletes will go on to play professionally with Athletes Unlimited.

The final game of the season drew 12,324 fans to Devon Park, setting a new NCAA Championship Finals attendance record. On TV, Game 1 of the series reached 1.9m viewers with a peak of 2.1m representing the best WCWS audience since 2021 and becoming the second most-streamed softball game on ESPN+.
