New baseball Hall of Fame launched in Mexico

The brand new Mexican Hall of Fame was inaugurated today in Monterrey, Mexico, in another big milestone for the Mexican baseball history

The brand new Mexican Hall of Fame was inaugurated today in Monterrey, Mexico, in another big milestone for the Mexican baseball history. Baseball fans have now a new place to admire and remember the 196 members of the Hall of Fame.

WBSC Global Ambassador and President of Mexico Andrés Manuel López Obrador was present in the inauguration of the event. The Governor of Nuevo Leon, Jaime Rodriguez Calderon; and the Presidents of Liga Mexicana de Béisbol (LMB) and Liga Mexicana del Pacifico (LMP), Javier Salinas and Omar Canizales respectively, also attended the ceremony. Although the focal point of the event was Alfredo Harp Helu, Mexican businessman and loyal baseball fan, who sponsored the new building and made it possible.

“Baseball is my favourite sport since I was a kid and it’s my passion, people who’ve played baseball know what I mean”, said Lopez Obrador. “Congratulations Alfredo (Harp Helu) and thank you for your support. Let’s keep the grand slams coming!”.

The mission of the Mexican Baseball Hall of Fame is recognize and exalt the most important personalities of the Mexican baseball. A total of 196 members have been inducted into the Hall of Fame so far, including 136 players, 7 managers, 11 umpires, 20 journalists and 22 officials.

The new building is located at Parque Fundidora, in Monterrey, Mexico, and counts with a permanent exposition, a mini baseball diamond, auditorium, library, restaurant, official gift store, and interactive batting and pitching cages, to enjoy the sport in a virtual reality environment.

The Hall of Fame will officially open to the public on 21 February.
