The Mexican Softball Federation (Federacion Mexicana de Softbol, FMS) has announced the 2022 preliminary rosters for the Men's and U-23 Men's National Softball Teams. The squads were named after a series of tryouts and national championships. From 21-23 January, the two squads will gather in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, for a training camp.
Mexico, currently No. 8 in the WBSC Men’s Softball World Rankings, is slated to play this year in the Pan American Championships and continental qualifiers for the two World Cups: the flagship Men’s Softball World Cup in New Zealand, and the inaugural U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup in Argentina.
Nine players from the 2019 national team are included on the 20-man list announced by FMS. Mexico finished in 11th place in the 2019 WBSC Men’s Softball World Championship played in Prague, Czech Republic, including a historic come-from-behind win over New Zealand, 5-4, in eight innings.
A total of 10 players who played for Mexico in past world championships are included on the U-23 prelim roster, including six from the Men’s Softball World Championship 2018 and four from the U-18 Men’s Softball World Cup 2020. Mexico finished in sixth and eighth place, respectively.
