Jacinto Cipriota, advocate and leader of Argentina Softball, passes away at 68

As a player, coach and leader of the national and continental governing bodies, his positive spirit and vision led him to work tirelessly for the growth of softball, constantly striving to improve the sport and expand its boundaries both in his country and around the world.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) family is mourning the loss of Jacinto Cipriota, President of the Argentina Softball Confederation and Vice President of WBSC Americas Softball, who passed away yesterday in Buenos Aires, Argentina at the age of 68.

As a player, coach and leader of the national and continental governing bodies, his positive spirit and vision led him to work tirelessly for the growth of softball, constantly striving to improve the sport and expand its boundaries both in his country and around the world. 

WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari expressed his condolences through his X account: "I am saddened to receive the news of the passing of my friend Jacinto Cipriota, one of the leaders who turned Argentina into a world power in softball. I would like to send my most sincere condolences to his family, friends and all members of the Argentine softball community."

Born on 10 May 1956 in Buenos Aires, Cipriota spearheaded a movement that brought Argentina to the No. 1 position in the WBSC/KONAMI Men's Softball World Ranking. His passion and leadership were the driving forces behind Argentina's rise to the top of the men's softball world, highlighted by winning the WBSC Men's Softball World Cup in 2019 and two Junior Men's Softball World titles in 2012 and 2014.

The Argentina Softball Confederation announced the sad news on their social media accounts. "A visionary and a dreamer, 'Titon' will be remembered for his leadership and passion for our sport."
