Cuba reveals preliminary national softball team rosters on road to upcoming multi-sports Games

The teams from the island aim to qualify for the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games and the Central American and Caribbean Games (CACG) Panama 2022.

The Cuban Softball Federation unveiled the preliminary rosters for their men's and women’s national teams, aiming to prepare the squads for the upcoming international contests and earn a berth in the Pan American Games 2023, and the Central American and Caribbean Games 2022.

Both teams are waiting for government approval to start their training seasons. The women’s team expects to be back on the field in September, in Havana; while the men’s side will train in Ciego de Avila.

Cuba Women’s National Softball Team

The Cuban women’s national team finished in fifth place at the WBSC Softball Americas Olympic Qualifier last year, with an overall 4-4 record. In 2018 they won the bronze medal at the CACG Barranquilla 2018, but didn’t participate in the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.

The 23-athlete roster includes:

Pitchers: Anisley López, Yilian Tornés, Saraí Góngora , Amalia González, Betidelys Prieto, Iraimi Díaz, and Yamelkis Guevara.

Catchers: Rosangela Jardines, Yariadna López, Daniela Flores, Dayani Justiz, and Osmaidy Fonseca.

Infielders: Liadnelis Zayas, Yilian Rondón, Marta Torres, Yiliet de la Caridad Medina, Yoannet Domínguez, and Daniela Barbosa.

Outfielders: Maidelis Reyes, Elisabeth Robert, Lisaidi Samón, Jenifer Poncena, and Dailín Friol.

Cuba Men’s National Softball Team

Cuba's men's squad aims to repeat the gold medal campaign at Barranquilla 2018 CACG, winning the event after a 20-year drought. In 2019, the team finished fourth at the Pan American Games and tenth at the WBSC Men’s Softball World Championship after a 30-year absence.

The following 23 players have been selected for the Cuban National Softball Team:

Pitchers: Alain Román, GusbelPlutín, Alberto Hernández, Yosvani Cárdenas, and Javier Navarro.

Catchers: Reinier Vera, Andrés Reyna, and Antonio Sixto.

Infielders: Yersander Rodríguez, Luis Raúl Domínguez, Yasmani Ríos, Wilfredo Sánchez, César Bousa, Roger Rosete, Osvaldo Pérez, and Yudiel Acevedo.

Outfielders: Aníbal Vaillant, Reynaldo Lamote, Miguel Savigne, Yury Rodríguez, Juan Carlos Rodríguez, Yurisander Ramos, and Héctor Castillo.
