What a promotion: Minor League Baseball club gives away pregnancy tests

JACKSONVILLE, Florida (USA)-The baseball Double A Jumbo Shrimp called a “You Might Be The Father” night: they will give out pregnancy tests to fans, to help them find out if they need to return for Father’s Day

Minor League Baseball in the United States is already famous for the emphasis on promotion, but the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp may be taking it to the next level. Tonight (Thursday June 15) is the night of the You Might Be The Father promotion. In honor of Sunday being Father’s Day, the Jumbo Shrimp will distribute free pregnancy tests at the game against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.
“So you’ll know if you need to return for Sunday’s Father’s Day game”.

General Manager Harold Craw explained to the Jacksonville.com website: “We seek to create entertainment and promotions that delight the whole family” and cleared that the team has “several hundred of the tests ready to hand out. We’ll give to them if they want one”.

The Washington Post dedicated some attention to the promotion and drew a connection to what happened in Charleston (South Carolina) in 2002. The Class A Riverdogs tried to call a Vasectomy Night on Father’s Day. Their intention was giving a chance for a free Vasectomy to a “lucky” fan. But they were stopped by complaints of the Mayor and by a local Bishop.
