12U BWC: Venezuela overpowers Hong Kong

Youth Park/Taipei City. Venezuela scored nine runs in the second and ten in the fourth to down Hong Kong 24-0 in the afternoon game at Youth Park to open the II 12U Baseball World Cup. The South Americans used 19 hits on offense and were nearly perfect on defense in the shutout.

Venezuela used 14 players in the game; every one of them scored at least a run. Key player of the game was Manuel Colorado, who threw four no-hit, two-walk innings on the mound, while striking out eight. At the plate he was 2-for-3 with a walk, three runs scored and three RBI. Jose Zapata also drove in three. Aaron Bracho scored thrice.

Ryan Chi Lam Wong and Yu Conrad Kwok were the only two base runners for Hong Kong, reaching on a pair of walks. Tsz Yin Jordan Wen surrendered nine hits, 11 runs (7 ER) and two walks in two frames to take the loss.

Venezuela now will take on Russia on Friday afternoon, again at Youth Park. Hong Kong will rest before resuming play on Saturday against Pakistan on the same site.
