Schedule & Results

In today's first game, Guatemala and Colombia faced each other for the first time in a Men's Softball World Cup. Both teams played each other in April, during the Americas Qualifier. Guatemala outlasted Colombia, 6-5, in an eight-inning drama. Jorge Segura pitched seven innings for Colombia with 11 strikeouts, while Juan Diego Morales closed the game in the eighth frame.

A two-run homer from Luis Pedro Villeda in the first inning set the tone for a 9-2 Guatemala win against Colombia, in a very important game for the Play Offs race. Dennis Hurtarte and Pedro Dieguez also homered for the Central American team, while Jorge Segura pitched the six innings, striking out seven. Guatemala is now 2-1 and tomorrow will close the Opening Round with a doubleheader.

In the second game of the day, Colombia defeated Netherlands 7-0 in five innings. All six Colombia's hits came off the bats of Mateo Luna (2-for-3), Aldo Navia (2-for-2) and Jorge Martinez (2-for-3). Martinez also collected three RBIs in the game. Ramiro Escorcia tossed five scoreless innings, giving up only one hit and two walks, while striking out five.

Colombia and Netherlands had played for the last time in Auckland on 3 March 2013, with a 6-1 win for the Colombian side.

Netherlands is playing South Africa to complete their doubleheader. Both teams have failed to win in the tournament so this might be their last chance to get in the fight for a Play Offs spot. They played for the last time in a World Cup on 19 June 2019 in Czechia, with a 7-0 win for the African squad.

The last game of the day will feature USA and Japan, the only two undefeated teams in the competition. If USA wins, they will clinch one of the top two spots in the standings and will get two chances to punch their ticket to the Finals. On the other side, a win for Japan will put them in great position to clinch tomorrow one of the top two spots in the standings. They played for the last time in a World Cup on 28 June 2015 in Whitehorse, Canada. Japan defeated USA, 5-4.
