Tucker’s triple propels Canada past Australia in crucial win

Avery Tucker’s two-run triple lifted Canada to a 2-0 victory over Australia, securing second place in the Opening Round.

Canada secured a vital 2-0 win over Australia, as Avery Tucker provided the key hit to help her team claim second place and a Play-Off spot in the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup Group C at The Village in Dallas, USA, on Sunday.

Both teams were locked in a scoreless pitching duel through four innings, with Canada's Morgan Reimer and Australia’s Jayda Lorigan delivering impressive performances. Reimer struck out eight batters, while Lorigan allowed only two hits.

In the top of the fifth inning, Canada finally broke through. Chantall Carriere reached base on a walk, followed by a single from Kenzie Hess. Tucker then stepped up and delivered a clutch two-run triple, sending the ball into the left field corner to give Canada a 2-0 lead.

Australia threatened in the bottom half of the inning, but Reimer’s strong pitching kept them at bay, striking out key batters to maintain the lead. Lorigan also continued to pitch well for Australia, but her team couldn’t find the offensive spark to mount a comeback.

Reimer’s complete-game shutout, supported by Tucker’s crucial hit, helped Canada secure second place in the Opening Round and advance to the Play-Offs, while Australia missed the opportunity to clinch a Play-Off berth in this tightly contested game. Reimer’s command in the circle proved crucial to Canada’s success.
