Tapia leads Mexico to dramatic comeback win over Australia

Ava Tapia's clutch double completed a thrilling seventh-inning comeback, lifting Mexico to a 6-5 victory over Australia.

Trailing 5-2 in the final inning, Mexico rallied with Ava Tapia driving in the game-tying and game-winning runs with a double, securing their place in the Repechage final with a sturnning 6-5 comeback win over Australia in the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup Group C at The Village in Dallas, USA, on Monday.

Australia started strong with Indy Munro leading the charge. She belted a solo homer in the second inning, followed by a two-run shot in the fifth inning to give Australia a commanding 5-0 lead.

Mexico chipped away at the deficit, scoring one run in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Clarissa Mejia and adding another in the sixth, with Ana Paula Oquita driving in a run to make it 5-2.

In the bottom of the seventh, two Australian errors opened the door for Mexico. Tapia delivered the decisive blow with a double to left centre field, scoring two runs and completing the comeback for a 6-5 win.
