Colley, Tucker lead Canada past Philippines

Caitlin Colley’s solo home run and Avery Tucker’s two-run double powered Canada to a 6-0 victory over the Philippines, securing their second win of the day in the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup.

Canada wrapped up their doubleheader in Group C of the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup with a 6-0 triumph over the Philippines on Saturday at The Village in Dallas, USA. Strong pitching and timely hitting ensured Canada remained in control throughout their second game of the day.

In the second inning, Canada broke the deadlock when Danika Livingstone led off with a double and advanced to third on a single by Kenzie Hess. Chantal Carriere hit a ground ball to bring home Livingstone for the game’s first run, and a throwing error allowed Colley to score from first base, giving Canada a 2-0 lead.

Canada added to their lead in the fourth inning. After back-to-back singles, Hess drove in another run with a single to shortstop. Tucker then hit a two-run double down the right field line, extending the lead to 4-0.

In the fifth inning, Colley launched a solo home run to left field, making it 5-0. Tucker then delivered an RBI single in the sixth to bring in the final run, securing a 6-0 victory for Canada.

Danika Nell pitched six shutout innings, allowing only a handful of hits and striking out key batters to preserve the shutout.
