Christian leads Philippines to fifth place with shutout win over Ireland

Callie Grace Christian's stellar pitching and timely hitting helped the Philippines secure a 4-0 victory over Ireland, claiming fifth place in Group C.

Callie Grace Christian was dominant in the circle, combining excellent pitching with key contributions at the plate to help the Philippines clinch a 4-0 shutout victory over Ireland, securing fifth place in the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup Group C at The Village in Dallas, USA, on Monday.

In the first inning, Mylia Perez singled and advanced to third on a throwing error by Ireland's second baseman Roisin Moriarty, eventually scoring on a sacrifice bunt to give the Philippines a 1-0 lead.

The Philippines extended their lead in the second inning when Christian drove in two runs with a double to left centre, plating Jiyah Caban and Perez to make it 3-0.

Eliana Deyoung added an insurance run in the third inning, doubling to right field and later scoring on a fielding error by Ireland's Rachel Keys, putting the Philippines ahead 4-0.

Christian was in control throughout the game, keeping Ireland off the scoreboard with her excellent pitching, while the defence backed her up with strong plays. Her all-around performance helped the Philippines secure fifth place in Group C.
