Brooke Wells shines as USA defeat Canada 9-1

Brooke Wells' clutch hitting and a strong all-around performance led the USA to a 9-1 victory over Canada, continuing their unbeaten run in the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup in Dallas.

USA’s WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup Group C game against Canada saw a standout performance by Brooke Wells, who went 2-for-4 with a key two-run double, propelling the USA to a 9-1 victory at The Village in Dallas, United States, on Friday.

USA took an early lead in the first inning with a three-run homer by Sofia Mujica and an additional run scored on a wild pitch, making it 4-0. All four runs were scored with two outs on the board, putting immediate pressure on Canada.

The USA extended their lead in the third inning with an RBI single by Townsen Thomas and a two-run double by Ryan Allen, bringing the score to 7-0. Canada’s centre fielder, Cali Chapman, made a spectacular play to throw out a runner at home, but the damage had already been done.

Canada finally got on the board in the fourth inning with a solo home run by Jana Want, their first hit and run of the game, breaking USA's shutout streak in the tournament. However, the USA quickly responded in the sixth inning, with Wells delivering a two-out, two-run double to cement the 9-1 victory.
