Czechia beat Great Britain with strong pitching game

Nikola Skardova and Lucie Vecerova’s combined pitching shutout and Czechia's capitalisation on errors led to a 9-0 victory over Great Britain in the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup.

Czechia rode the stellar pitching performances of Nikola Skardova and Lucie Vecerovato to record a 9-0 victory over Great Britain in the final game on Tuesday at the WBSC U-18 Women's Softball World Cup Group A at Estádio Municipal de Beisebol Mie Nishi.

Skardova pitched four scoreless innings, with Vecerova closing with a perfect fifth inning. Czechia capitalised on five errors by Great Britain, scoring multiple runs in the first three innings.

Iva Strakova led Czechia’s offence, going 2-for-3 with a run, while Julie Houbova, Rebeka Wenclova, and Sara Rolfesova each drove in two runs. Great Britain’s Jenna Thompson and Cara Edwards provided their only hits.

Czechia took an early lead in the first with Rolfesova’s two-RBI single. They added two more runs in the second, aided by doubles from Strakova and Houbova. A five-run third inning, highlighted by Wenclova’s two-run single, extended their lead to 9-0.

Great Britain threatened in the fourth with bases loaded, but Skardova’s defence held firm, preserving Czechia’s shutout victory.
