Philippines wants to continue dominating softball at Southeast Asian Games

Softball at the South East Asian (SEA) Games has been dominated by the Philippines, having won all 10 gold medals. The Philippines’ objective is to keep the winning streak alive.

The Philippines Women’s National Softball Team is eager to be back on the field and start training. They have only one goal in mind: to win their 11th consecutive gold medal at the South East Asian Games next year in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Philippines coach Ana Santiago said the training of players will be at full speed once COVID-19 restrictions ease.

“We have a few months to prepare because the SEA Games will be held next year," said Santiago, according to Pilipino Mirror. "We will maximize our training and preparation.”

The Philippines climbed to the 11th position in the latest WBSC Women’s Softball World Rankings, released in January, after the gold medal at the SEA Games 2019, and fourth places at U-17 and senior Asian Championships last year. This is the highest rank ever for the Blue Girls.

Santiago said the Blu Girls will play against big rivals in other countries, with the help of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), to prepare and gain more international experience before going to Vietnam.

"Foreign exposure is needed to get better, because our ultimate goal is to maintain a perfect record at the SEA Games," Santiago said.
