The organisers of the WBSC-sanctioned Canada Cup announced on Monday the dates of the 2021 edition of the annual international softball tournament. Next year’s event will be held from 2-11 July, with the international event running from 5-11 July. The Canada Cup will be held just two weeks before the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
According to the organisers, the event will promote the development of the sport of softball by helping young female athletes reach for their personal best. Five different tournaments will be played: the Women’s Division (international event), Futures Gold (U-19), Showcase Gold (U16), Futures Select (U-19) and Showcase Select (U-16).
The 26th edition of the Canada Cup was originally scheduled for 2020 but had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2019 Surrey hosted the WBSC Softball Americas Olympic Qualifier, with 10 teams competing for two Olympic berths before Mexico and Canada qualified for Tokyo to represent the Americas continent.
