WBSC Baseball5 World Cup promoted at Hong Kong community event

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Baseball5 Community Project launched with a ceremony and demonstration game, setting the stage for the upcoming WBSC Baseball5 World Cup in October, where 12 teams from around the world will compete for title of World Champion.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Baseball5 Community Project launched Saturday at the Central Harbourfront Event Space, marking the start of a series of activities leading up to the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup 2024, which will take place from 7-12 October.

The event featured a launch ceremony, which was officiated by Hong Kong's Under Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Raistlin Lau, Robbie McRobbie, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities (Sports) Executive Manager, Andrew Fan, President of The Baseball Association of Hong Kong, China and Dave Ho, Chairman of The Baseball Association of Hong Kong, China.

The highlight of the event was a demonstration game that included eight athletes from various sports such as Baseball5 player Tai Man Kwan , Softballer Wong Cho Hei , fin swimmer Yuen Wai Hang Ringo, karate athlete Choi Wan Yu, basketball player Yam Hui Yin , artist and women’s football player Chek Wing Shan, men's football player Tse Kaw Wing and frisbee player Lee Chun To.

The WBSC Baseball5 World Cup 2024 will be held at the same venue. Twelve teams from five continents, including Tunisia, South Africa, Cuba, Mexico, Venezuela, China, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Hong Kong, France, Lithuania, and Australia, will compete for the title of World Champion.

The first edition of the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup was held at El Zócalo in Mexico City, Mexico, in 2022. Cuba emerged as the inaugural World Champions, defeating Japan, who took second place, while Chinese Taipei finished third.
